USS Boston
(1887-1946)

Tied up at Yerba Buena Island, while serving as receiving ship there, shortly before World War II.
This ship was renamed Despatch on 9 August 1940 and designated IX-2 on 17 February 1941.
Note the old destroyers at left, lightship at right and San Francisco Bay ferryboats in the distance.
