Line engraving after a sketch by Andrew McCallum, published in "Harper's Weekly", 9 March 1867.
Accused of involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, Surratt was captured in Egypt. He was brought to the U.S. to stand trial but was not convicted.
