Aoba
(Japanese Heavy Cruiser, 1927)

View looking aft from the bow, as the ship was resting on the bottom near the Kure Navy Yard, Japan, 12 October 1945. She had been sunk in air attacks in July 1945.
Note her twin 20cm gun turrets and other details of deck and superstructure. Small tree branches around the deck edge are the remains of an attempt to camouflage the ship.

The original photograph came from Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison's World War II history project working files.
