Guadalcanal-Tulagi Operation, August 1942
Fires burn near the Tulagi Cricket Grounds, after bombing by
U.S. carrier aircraft on 7 August 1942, the day U.S. Marines
landed to capture the island.
Photographed from an SBD, this view looks about northwest.
Small islands in the foreground are (from the bottom of the view,
running toward Tulagi, as identified on the original print):
Songonangona, Kokomtabu and Mbangai.
