USS Mercury (ID # 3012)


Ship's first liberty party is inspected by her Executive Officer, Commander Prentiss P. Bassett, at St. Nazaire, France. They were leaving the ship after the completion of her first trans-Atlantic trooping voyage, circa January 1918.
Note the truck at left, marked "U.S. 2234-X", and the French army sentry with a Lebel rifle, in the left center.
