Floating drydock YFD-6 (center section)
Being prepared for transiting the Panama Canal, circa 1945.
This view shows YFD-6 with a "list" of 20 degrees,
two hours after Navy SeaBees began the job of turning the drydock's
center section on its side, to make possible the passage through
the canal's locks. A thousand Navy pontoons were installed on
one wing wall (at right), so the drydock section could float
on its side.
The photograph was released for publication on 26 June 1945.
Official U.S. Navy Photograph, from the collections of the
Naval Historical Center.
