Floating drydock YFD-6 (center section)

Under tow in the Culebra Cut, Panama Canal, circa 1945.
To permit passage through the canal locks, Navy SeaBees turned YFD-6's center section on its side. A thousand Navy pontoons were installed atop the wing wall to allow the drydock to float on its side during the canal transit. Harbor tug Alarka (YTB-229) is in the center. Tug at left appears to be USS ATA-209.
The photograph was released for publication on 25 June 1945.

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, from the collections of the Naval Historical Center.
