USS Memphis
(Armored Cruiser # 10)

Wrecked at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she was driven ashore by tidal waves on 29 August 1916.
This photograph was taken during the early stages of salvage operations, as Sailors were working to remove the ship's guns, equipment and supplies. Note the walkway from shore to ship in the center of the view.
