Ensign Joseph G. Smith, A-V(N), USNR


Photographed circa October 1939. He received his commission on 15 October 1939.
On 8 May 1942, while flying with Scouting Squadron Two from USS Lexington (CV-2), he made the first sighting of the Japanese carrier force during the Battle of the Coral Sea.
