Nansemond
(Passenger-Cargo Steamer, 1896)

Photographed circa 1917-1918, after installation of guns. The German steamship Pennsylvania was interned in the United States during the first part of World War I. She was seized when the U.S. entered the war in 1917 and renamed Nansemond by the U.S. Shipping Board. Used by the Army during 1917-18, she was commissioned on 20 January 1919 as USS Nansemond (ID # 1395). The ship was decommissioned on 16 September 1919 and returned to the Shipping Board.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
