Welcome (American Motor Boat, 1914)
In port. Presence of a Sailor indicates that the photo may have
been taken after she was in Navy service.
This fast (18 miles per hour) open cockpit type pleasure boat
was acquired by the Navy on 7 August 1917 and placed in commission
as USS Welcome (SP-1175) on 17 August. Following World
War I duty on the Great Lakes she was returned to her owner,
R.H. Wilcox of Detroit, Michigan, on 7 March 1919.
