S.S. Neponset
(American Freighter, 1918)

In port, possibly on 22 October 1918, when she was inspected by the Third Naval District.
Built in 1918 by the Sun Shipbuilding Company of Chester, Pennsylvania, this freighter was acquired by the Navy on 28 October 1918 and placed in commission at that time as USS Neponset (ID # 3581). In January 1919 it was intended to convert her to a troop transport, but she was instead decommissioned and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board on 4 February 1919.
