Photo #: NH 103926 USS Essex (1876-1930) -- probable identification In port, circa the late 1890s or early 1900s. The building in the right distance is marked "Globe Iron Works", indicating that the location may be Cleveland, Ohio. Essex served with the Ohio Naval Militia beginning in 1904. Note the large decorated bulwark atop the ship's bow, possibly a screen for her heads. The original image was printed on postal card stock.
