USS Yankee (1898-1908)

Reverse of a a post card published by L.L. Gifford, and postmarked at Eastport Post Office, Massachusetts, on 1 December 1908. It contains a message addressed to Mrs. Franklin Wilmarth of Providence, Rhode Island, concerning the wreck of USS Yankee, which had gone aground off Horse Neck Beach, Massachusetts, on 23 September 1908. Though refloated on 4 December of that year, she sank soon afterwards while under tow. See Photo # NH 104163 for the photograph printed on the card's front side.
