Iwo Jima Operation 1945


Iwo Jima landing beach, cluttered with abandoned vehicles and other debris, circa late February 1945.
USS LSM-92 is unloading at left, with Mount Suribachi in the distance. Landing craft in the extreme left foreground is from USS Belle Grove (LSD-2). Note the mired Jeep in the left center and 37mm field gun in right center.

The original print came from Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison's World War II history project working files. It was provided to Morison by Admiral William H.P. Blandy, USN.
