"Wrecked American Landing Craft at Iwo Jima Beach. Broken and battered, these American landing craft were wrecked while carrying Marines ashore at the Japanese Island of Iwo. Shell craters and foxholes pock mark the beach. This picture was made by Lt. L.S. Willis, USNR, ... February 20th." Quoted from the original photo caption, released by Commander-in-Chief, Pacific/Pacific Ocean Areas on 21 February 1945.
Most of these wrecks are LCVPs, but an LCM is in the left center. The ship ashore in the upper right is a small Japanese steamer.
