Iwo Jima Operation, 1945
"While a terrific barrage pounds the surrounding beach a
Navy Medical Corpsman dresses a wounded Marine while his buddies
keep down while awaiting the barrage to end so they can move
forward." (quoted from the original 1945 vintage caption).
Photographed by Lee Weber, this view was probably taken on 19
February 1945, during the first day of landings on Iwo Jima.
The original photograph came from Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison's
World War II history project working files.
