Iwo Jima Operation, 1945
"Slightly under Fire --- This Marine rifleman crouches low
to move forward on Iwo Jima as Jap machine gun bullets rip through
the trees above his head. Jap lying in the road (center) had
been killed by advancing Marines an hour before. The picture
was taken from the depression in the foreground 50 yards from
the front lines." (quoted from the original caption released
with this photograph on 3 March 1945).
