Iwo Jima Operation, 1945

Landing Craft, Support (Large) [LCS(L)] off Iwo Jima's eastern shore during the initial landings, 19 February 1945. USS LCS(L)-34 is partially visible on the extreme right.
Note the large puff of white smoke over Mount Suribachi (left center), two airplanes in the upper center, and the dense smoke on and inland from the landing beaches.
