Iwo Jima Operation, 1945

Scene on an Iwo Jima landing beach, circa late February 1945. A broached Landing Craft, Mechanized (LCM) from USS Belle Grove (LSD-2) is in the center foreground. Several amphibious tractors (LVT) are among the vehicles on the beach, amid scattered supplies and mounds of volcanic ash.
