USS Sanborn (APA-193)

A group of U.S. Navy officers pose at an elementary school in Coronado, California, where officers were sent for classroom training, circa 1944.
At least some of those present are from USS Sanborn (APA-193). Among them are:
Lieutenant Howard W. Whalen, USNR (front row, center); and
Lieutenant Barney Killion, USNR (back row, 2nd from left with hat removed).
Identifications of people and location were provided by Andrew M. Klein during the 1990s. Note the mix of service dress khaki and service dress gray uniforms.
