USS Burns
(DM-11, formerly DD-171)

Admiral Robert E. Coontz, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Fleet, receives honors as he comes aboard the ship, circa 1923-1924. Location is probably Honolulu, Hawaii.
Burns was then commanded by Lieutenant Commander Olaf M. Hustvedt, USN.
Note the mine tracks on the ship's main deck (at left), the life raft alongside her Number Three Smokestack, the whaleboat hung from her davits, and the structure supporting her starboard midships four-inch gun.

Photo from the 1909-1924 album of Vice Admiral Olaf M. Hustvedt, USN (Retired). Courtesy of Rick Hauck, 2006.
