Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington
Panoramic photograph taken from west of the Navy Yard, scanning
from south to east, circa 1919-1920.
Several battleships are at the Navy Yard piers, in the left center
distance, and another battleship is off shore, to the right of
the distant piers. A cargo ship is alongside the nearer pier
in left center, and a civilian ferry steamer is in the center
foreground.
Several decommissioned or reduced commission warships are moored
in the right half of the image. They are (from center to right):
USS Charleston (Cruiser # 22), USS Vicksburg (Gunboat
# 11) with USS SC-292 alongside, USS Montana (Armored
Cruiser # 13 -- renamed Missoula on 7 June 1920), USS
Seattle (Armored Cruiser # 11) with a cargo ship beyond,
USS Oregon (Battleship # 3), and USS North Carolina
(Armored Cruiser # 12 -- renamed Charlotte on 7 June 1920).
The five vertical lines in this image suggest that it is a montage
of six separate prints, though the even flow of the image across
these lines indicates that all the original prints were the product
of a single sweep by one panoramic camera.
