S.S. American Pilot
(American Training Ship, 1919)

This ship was completed in 1919 as S.S. Shaume She served as USS Procyon (AG-11) from 1921 to 1931 and USS Empire State (IX-38), a merchant marine training ship, from 1931 to 1940. She is shown here off New York City during the final phase of her career, as the civilian merchant marine training ship American Pilot between 1940 and 1948.
