William D. Halyburton, Jr. was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity"
while serving with a Marine Rifle Company in the Second Battalion, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division during action against
Japanese forces on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Chain, 19 May 1945.
