Photo #: 80-G-K-13849 (Color) President Franklin D. Roosevelt Examines a Japanese Navy flag, held by Marine Corps Commandant Lieutenant General Thomas Holcomb, at the White House in September 1942. This flag was captured by Marine Raiders on Makin Island during the 17-18 August raid. It was offered to the President for his personal collection, but he instead recommend that it be placed among the Marine Corps' trophies Note the U.S. Flag in the center, with a ribbon marked "...
