Photo #: KN-27599 (Color) Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Marine sentry on duty at the Latrobe Gate, 8th and M Streets, Southeast, circa Summer 1978. This photo looks north (and a little east) from inside the Navy Yard. The gate was designed in the Greek Revival style by Benjamin Latrobe, with constructing beginning 1805. In 1880 a Victorian three-story building was added on top and at each side of the original gate structure. This photograph was received by the Naval Photographic Center in January 1979.
