"Single Cal.{iber} 6" Cruiser - Scheme "J""
Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during
the development of a light cruiser with rapid-firing 6"/47
anti-aircraft guns, which ultimately became the Worcester
(CL-144) class.
This plan, dated 31 May 1943, is for a 664-foot (waterline length),
13,890 (standard displacement) ship with twelve main battery
guns, a flush deck hull with aircraft facilities located aft,
increased numbers of 40mm anti-aircraft guns, and a single smokestack.
Vignetted into the plan are 14 July 1943 revisions, providing
for two smokestacks.
Scale of the original drawings is 1/32" = 1'.
The original plan is in the 1939-1944 "Spring Styles Book"
held by the Naval Historical Center.
