Untitled Plan for a Seagoing Tug ... March 25, 1918

Draft preliminary design plan for a tug prepared by the Bureau of Construction & Repair’s Preliminary Design staff. This drawing represents one of two types of seagoing tugs being considered for construction at the time. (There is no drawing in this collection of the second type, a 150-ft. steel tug.) This plan provides for a wooden vessel, apparently derived from plans and specifications for a 25-foot longer merchant tug obtained from the commercial firm of Cox and Stevens (according to papers in Preliminary Design Book No.196 at the National Archives.) No ship of this type was built.
This plan provides no identified armament and steam machinery in a ship 112 feet 8 inches long on the waterline and 26 feet 4 inches in beam. This draft drawing does not provide speed and displacement estimates.
Note: The original document was pencil on linen (black on white).

The original plan is in the 1911-1925 "Spring Styles Book".
