U.S. Army Engineers carefully remove the fuze of a live mine found under the Cherbourg docks, 17 July 1944. They are working under the direction of 2nd Lieutenant P.H. Shupp, at right.
Note debris in the background, including several other possible mines, and man smoking a pipe (center) while assisting in the defuzing work.
