Photo #: SC 192919

Cherbourg, France

One of the first American-made locomotives to reach France is swung from the SS Seatrain Texas by the crane ship Lapland and placed on rails, 13 July 1944.
Much railway equipment had to be brought to France to replace rolling stock destroyed before the Allied invasion.
This locomotive appears to be a "2-8-0" type.
Photographed by Bacon.
