Seaman Edward William Boers, USN, (1884-1929)

Edward William Boers was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on 10 March 1884, later joining the Navy as a resident of Kentucky. He was a crew member of the gunboat Bennington when that ship suffered a deadly boiler explosion on 21 July 1905. For his conduct in the immediate aftermath of that tragedy, Seaman Boers was awarded the Medal of Honor. Edward William Boers died on 2 April 1929.

Seaman Boers was born 10 March 1884 at Cincinnati, Ohio.

Medal of Honor citation of Seaman Edward William Boers (as printed in the official publication "Medal of Honor, 1861-1949, The Navy", page 90):

"On board the U.S.S. Bennington, 21 July 1905. Following the explosion of a boiler of that vessel, BOERS displayed extraordinary heroism in the resulting action."
