Henry H. Kaack, Seaman, USN; and
Walter Lee, Machinist, USN

Henry H. Kaack and Walter Lee were members of the 1879-1881 Jeannette Arctic expedition. In September 1881, after their ship's loss and a subsequent journey across the pack ice and the Arctic seas, they were among the fourteen men who landed on the northern end of the Lena River Delta, Siberia. All but two of this party, weakened by exposure and lack of food, died during the following weeks. Kaack and Lee both succumbed on 21 October 1881. Their bodies were later found and, in early 1884, were brought back to the United States for burial.

This page features all the views we have related to Jeannette expedition crewmen Henry H. Kaack and Walter Lee.
