Actus (Steam Yacht, 1907). Previously named Halawa.
Served as USS Actus (SP-516) in 1917-1920
Actus, a 120-foot steam yacht, was built in 1907 at Neponset,
Massachusetts. Her name was changed from Halawa at some
point before World War I. The Navy apparently placed her in
commission in April 1917 as USS Actus (SP-516), but did
not formally purchase her until late May. For the rest of the
First World War she served on patrol duties along the eastern
coast of Massachusetts, and continued in service in the Boston
area during the first months of 1919. USS Actus was decommissioned
in July 1919. A year later, in July 1920, she was transferred
to the War Department.
This page features all our views of the yacht Actus,
which was USS Actus in 1917-1920.

Actus (U.S. Steam Yacht, 1907)
Photographed prior to World War I. She is flying a pennant that
appears to bear the word "Baryard".
Previously named Halawa, this craft was acquired by the
Navy on 26 May 1917, but was reportedly commissioned even earlier,
on 18 April. She served during World War I as USS Actus
(SP-516). Stricken from the Navy list on 17 June 1919, she was
transferred to the War Department on 20 July 1920.
The original photograph is in Record Group 19-LCM in the National
