Admiral (American Motor Boat, 1913).
Served as USS Admiral (SP-541) in 1917-1919

Admiral, a 73-foot motor workboat, was built at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, in 1913. Owned by the State of Maine, she was acquired by the Navy at the beginning of May 1917 and placed in commission as USS Admiral (SP-541) at the end of that month. The craft was employed in Maine waters during and after the First World War, performing patrol and icebreaking duties. Admiral was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard in April 1919 and renamed Leader in December. She was destroyed by a gasoline explosion and fire on 2 April 1920.

This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Admiral and USS Admiral (SP-541).
