Arcadia (American Motor Boat, 1915).
May have served as USS Arcadia (SP-856) in 1918-1919

Arcadia, a 55-foot motor boat, was built at Brooklyn, New York, in 1915 as a civilian pleasure craft. She was taken over by the Navy in October 1918 and may have briefly been commissioned as USS Arcadia (SP-856). However since no logs have been found for her and she was in Navy hands for as little as one month, it is also possible that she was never placed in service. Sources vary on when Arcadia was returned to her owner, perhaps in early November 1918, and certainly no later than May 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Arcadia, which may have briefly been USS Arcadia (SP-856) in 1918-1919.

Arcadia
(American Motor Boat, 1915)

Photographed prior to World War I.
This craft was taken over by the Navy, under charter, on 8 October 1918. Though she may have served as USS Arcadia (SP-856), there are no logs of her service and she was soon returned to her owner, either on 6 November 1918 or early in 1919.
