Barge # 6 (American Barge, in service in 1918).
Served in the U.S. Navy as Barge # 6 (ID # 3373) and Freight Lighter # 148 beginning in late 1918

Barge # 6, an 86' 3" wooden barge, was owned by E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., of Wilmington, Delaware. On 16 October 1918 she was inspected by the Fifth Naval District for possible Navy service and assigned the registry ID # 3373. Barge # 6 was ordered taken over on 26 October 1918 and purchased later in the year. Renamed Freight Lighter # 148, she was in service at Indian Head, Maryland, in October 1919.

This page features our only view of Barge # 6, which became the U.S. Navy's Freight Lighter # 148.

In port, probably on 16 October 1918 when she was inspected by the Fifth Naval District.
Owned by E.I. DuPond de Nemours and Comapny, this wooden barge was assigned registry ID # 3373. She was purchased by the Navy under a letter of authorization dated 20 December 1918 and renamed Freight Lighter # 148 in 1919.
