Bivalve, a 55-foot motor boat built in 1901, was employed in the Long Island Sound area for harvesting oysters. She was taken over by the Navy in April 1918, placed in service as Bivalve (ID # 2472), and used as a tender to USS Berkshire (ID # 1578). No longer needed as the Navy drew down its forces after World War I, Bivalve was sold in July 1919.
This page features our only views of the oyster boat Bivalve, which served in the U.S. Navy as Bivalve (ID # 2472) in 1918-1919.
