Served as USS Cherokee (SP-1104) in 1917-1919

Cherokee, an 82-ton steam yacht, was built at Morris Heights, New York, in 1903. Her owner loaned her to the Navy in April 1917 for use during the First World War, and she was placed in commission as USS Cherokee (SP-1104) at the beginning of May. For the rest of the conflict she was employed on patrol service in the waters of northern New England. USS Cherokee was decommissioned in late November 1918 and returned to her owner in mid-February 1919.
