Doris B. III, a 48-foot motor pleasure boat, was built in 1912 by Britt Brothers. In June 1917 the Navy leased her from her owner, J.R. Jewett of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and soon placed her in commission as USS Doris B. III (SP-733). For the remainder of World War I she was assigned to the Second Naval District and performed patrol service in southern New England waters. The craft was returned to her owner early in December 1918, a little over three weeks after the Armistice had brought an end to "Great War" fighting.
This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Doris B. III, which was USS Doris B. III (SP-733) in 1917-1918.
