Dorothy, a 41-foot motor pleasure boat built in 1911, was acquired by the Navy in August 1917 from the Conservation Commission of Maryland. Placed in commission soon afterwards as USS Dorothy (SP-1289), she was assigned to the Fifth Naval District for service in the Maryland-Virginia area. No longer required following the 11 November 1918 Armistice that brought an end to the First World War's fighting, she was decommissioned and returned to her owners later in that month.
This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Dorothy of 1911, which was USS Dorothy (SP-1289) in 1917-1918.
