Eclipse, an 84-foot schooner with auxiliary gasoline engine propulsion, was built in 1906 by Bishops of Gloucester, Massachusetts, for use as a pleasure craft. She was leased by the Navy for World War I service and placed in commission at the end of August 1917 as Eclipse (SP-417). Following employment as a pilot and guard boat off Savannah, Georgia, she was returned to her owner, Frank W. Spencer of Savannah, in early January 1919.
This page features the only view we have concerning the auxiliary schooner Eclipse, which was USS Eclipse (SP-417) in 1917-1919.
