Express # 4, a 46-foot motor pleasure boat, was built in 1917 by C.F. Ferguson of Groton, Connecticut. Upon completion in early July 1917 the Navy leased her from M.F. Plant of Groton, placing her in commission as USS Express # 4 (SP-745). Though assigned to the Second Naval District for operation in southern New England waters, during the remainder of World War I she was employed for patrol duties along the Atlantic coast as far south as Florida. The boat was returned to her owner in January 1919.
This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Express # 4, which served as USS Express # 4 (SP-745) in 1917-1919.
