Jessamine (Motor Boat, 1907).
Served as USS Jessamine (SP-438) and USS SP-438, 1917-1919
Jessamine, a 90' 3" motor yacht, was built by J.M.
Bayles & Son at Port Jefferson, New York, in 1907. She was acquired
by the Navy for World War I service and commissioned in June 1917.
Based at Detroit, Michigan, USS Jessamine served as a patrol
boat in the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers and on Lake St. Clair.
In early 1918, she was renamed SP-438. She was transferred
to the U.S. Coast Guard in December 1919. Renamed Javelin
by the Coast Guard, she was employed in the Detroit area until
July 1922, when she was sold.

Jessamine (American Motor Boat, 1907)
Photographed prior to her World War I Naval service.
This pleasure craft was ordered delivered to the Navy on 19 May
1917 and placed in commission on 14 June of that year as USS
Jessamine (SP-438). Renamed SP-438 in 1918, she
spent her entire Navy career in the Detroit, Michigan, area.
Transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard on 2 December 1919 and renamed
Javelin, she continued to be based at Detroit until sold
on 31 July 1922.
