Julia Eleanor (Fishing Vessel, 1937);
Later USS Egret (AMc-24 and IX-181), 1941-1946

Julia Eleanor, a moderate-size fishing vessel, was built in 1937. She was acquired by the Navy in November 1940, converted into a minesweeper, and placed in service as USS Egret (AMc-24) in June 1941. Following World War II service, she was transferred to the Maritime Commission in June 1946.

    Photographed circa 1937-40. She was acquired by the Navy in 1940 and became USS Egret (AMc-24).

    The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
