Kamesit, a 6204 gross ton freighter, was built in 1918 by the Moore Shipbuilding Company of Oakland, California. She was turned over to the Navy in late January 1919 and placed in commission at that time as USS Kamesit (ID # 3829). In February-April 1919 the ship carried a cargo of barley from California to England, by way of the Panama Canal and Newport News, Virginia. Kamesit returned to the U.S. East Coast in May 1919. She was decommissioned later in that month and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board, which retained her until 1930, when she was abandoned.
This page features all the views we have concerning the freighter Kamesit, which was USS Kamesit (ID # 3829) in 1919.
