Mystery (Motor Boat, 1916)
Mystery, a 58' 1½" motor pleasure boat,
was built in 1916 at Morris Heights, New York, by the Gas Engine
and Power Company. She was registered, under the number SP-16,
for possible Navy use in World War I but was not taken over and
remained in civilian hands during the conflict.
This page features our only views of the motor boat Mystery,
built in 1916.

Mystery (U.S. Motor Boat, 1916)
Photographed circa 1916-1917.
This boat was given the Navy registry number SP-16 in 1917, but
was not taken over for Naval service. She has been confused in
some sources with another motor boat of the same name, which
became USS Mystery (SP-428).

Mystery (American Motor Boat, 1916)
In port, circa 1916-1917, probably in the New York City area.
This fast (27 mph) pleasure craft was considered for Navy service
in 1917. Though given the identification number SP-16, she was
not taken over.
