Nahunta, 1213 gross ton iron barge, was built in 1866 at Glasgow, Scotland, as a sailing merchant ship. She was later converted to an unpowered barge and employed in the coal trade. The Navy acquired her during World War I and placed her in commission as USS Nahunta (with no registry number) in August 1917. She served as a coal barge with the Naval Overseas Transportation Service and the Fifth Naval District until sold in October 1919.
This page features our only view of the barge Nahunta (ex-West Point), which was USS Nahunta in 1917-19.
