Ora Belle (American Motor Boat, 1911).
Later renamed Dolphin.
Served as USS Dolphin (SP-874) in 1918

Ora Belle, a 40-foot motor pleasure boat built in 1911 by H.C. Carson Love, was based in the Charleston, South Carolina, area prior to World War I. Under the name Dolphin, the Navy acquired her in July 1918 and placed her in commission in August of that year as USS Dolphin (SP-874). Assigned to the Sixth Naval District for the remainding months of the First World War, she was returned to her owners in mid-December 1918.

This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Ora Belle of 1911, later renamed Dolphin, which was USS Dolphin (SP-874) in 1918.

Ora Belle
(American Motor Boat, 1911)

Photographed prior to her World War I era Naval service, probably in a South Carolina area harbor.
This pleasure craft had been renamed Dolphin by June 1918. She was acquired by the Navy on 21 July 1918, placed in commission on 24 August as USS Dolphin (SP-874), and returned to her owner on 16 December 1918.
