Oregonian (American Freighter, 1901).
Served as USS Oregonian (ID # 1323) in 1918-1919

Oregonian, a 5648 gross ton steam freighter built in 1901 at Chester, Pennsylvania, was chartered by the U.S. Army in late 1917 for World War I service. She was taken over by the Navy in August 1918 and placed in commission as USS Oregonian (ID # 1323). As a unit of the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, she steamed across the Atlantic to France in September 1918 and returned to the U.S. the following month. Post-war, she made two more round-trip voyages, one to France and the other into the Mediterranean Sea, with the last one completed in March 1919. USS Oregonian was decommissioned in April 1919 and returned to her owners.

This page features our only view of the freighter Oregonian, which was USS Oregonian (ID # 1323) in 1918-1919.
